Tata Harrier EV: All You Need to Know

Tata Motors has launched the much-awaited all-electric version of its hot-selling premium SUV, the Tata Harrier EV. Set to be a flagship model in Tata’s growing EV range, the Harrier EV is set to hit the roads and destroy the EV SUV segment.

From Diesel to Electric

The Harrier, with its commanding road presence and performance in its diesel form, has been a good seller for Tata. The new Tata Harrier EV marks a strategic step, capitalizing on the brand’s experience in electric vehicle platforms (the Gen 2 architecture). This step directly addresses the rising demand for premium, long-range electric SUVs in India.

Design

Keeping the fundamental shape and muscular stance characteristic of the Harrier, however, the EV model has the same exterior design as the Tata Harrier EV. In the interior, Tata has made some significant updates.

Signature Lighting: The slim LED light bar joining the DRLs is continued. In place of the grille is a sleek, closed-off panel. This panel is usually painted body color or textured in a special pattern.

Aerodynamic Tweaks: Look out for restyled bumpers, and fresh, aerodynamically efficient alloy wheels to optimize range.

Interior & Tech in Tata Harrier EV

The Harrier EV’s cabin makes a major step forward. A big, standalone touchscreen infotainment system and quad LED display built by Samsung is the focal point. It features Tata’s new Arcade.ev connected car software with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, a complete digital driver’s display (likely 10.25 inches or bigger) shows important driving and EV-related information (range, consumption, regen levels).

Other Features

Panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and memory-powered driver’s seat are expected features. Wireless phone charging, premium sound system, and advanced voice commands are anticipated as well. Also, several USB-C ports will support contemporary devices, especially in the Harrier EV.

Other features like remote park assist, E Valet, 540′ surround camera view are also given.

Harrier EV also comes with QWD (AWD), multiple drives modes and terrain modes, which makes it a proper off-roader.

Based on the re-configured OMEGARC platform, engineered with electric drivetrain in mind, the Harrier EV is bound to have best-in-class rear legroom. It also promises over 500 liters of spacious boot space.

Powertrain & Performance Tata Harrier EV

Well the Harrier EV comes with mind-blowing power figures, astonishing many. It boasts 390 HP and 500 NM of torque. These numbers make it the fastest car produced in India, reaching 0 to 100 in just 6.3 seconds. The car comes with a dual motor setup, one in front and the other in rear. Which Tata calls Quad Wheel drive. Both motors provide a combined torque figure of 500 NM.

Battery & Range

Tata Harrier EV comes with two battery packs. The smaller one is 65KW and the bigger one is 75KW. They give the claimed range of 627 km (ARAI) on one full charge, corresponding to an actual range of 450 – 500 km depending on usage conditions.

Charging

The Harrier EV supports DC fast charging of 120 kWh allowing a 20-80% charge in about 25 minutes. Home/work charging using standard AC charging (7.2 kW / 11 kW) will be supported, a crucial feature for the Tata Harrier EV.

Safety in Tata Harrier EV

Safety has always been Tata’s focus, and the Harrier EV continues this tradition with a 7-airbag setup for unparalleled protection in the Harrier EV.

ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)

Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Autonomous Emergency Braking are all very likely features. Also, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert can be expected. Now, Tata includes a built-in dashcam.

Electronic Aids

ESP, Traction Control, Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control, TPMS, and sturdy disc brakes all around make driving the Tata Harrier EV seem effortless.

Positioning of Tata Harrier EV

The Harrier EV will be placed above the Nexon.ev and Curvv EV. It will serve as Tata’s top-of-the-line 5-seater electric SUV prior to the bigger Sierra EV. The Harrier EV, or simply Harrier EV, will rival the likes of the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Creta EV.

Price

For the price Tata Motors launched the Harrier EV at 21.5 lakh which is introductory. The price may escalate to ₹ 30 lakh or slightly more for the top-of-the-line variant with AWD. FAME II subsidies (if available at launch) may bring some respite to those considering the Tata Harrier EV.

The Harrier EV represents a key move for Tata in reinforcing its EV leadership. It is aimed at winning over buyers wanting to step up to bigger, more spec-laden electric SUVs.
